The Scottish Government has for a long time been ahead of the rest of the UK, as far as legislation relating to let properties has been concerned. Our private rented sector is safer for tenants and better regulated in many ways. The Government has also been keen to regulate letting agents and as of the 31st January 2018, anyone carrying out work as a letting agent must adhere to the Letting Agent Code of Practice ( https://www.gov.scot/publications/letting-agent-code-practice/).
In addition the Letting Agent must apply for registration to the Scottish Letting Agent Register. Arden’s application was fully approved in September 2018, making it one of the first hundred or so agents in the country to be registered. We believe that this Registration process is a very positive step forward for the letting industry, to improve standards across the board and to get rid of shoddy agents who break the law.
