Clermiston Property Management

About Clermiston…

Offering respite from the growing hustle and bustle in Leith and Gorgie, Clermiston estate was purpose-built in 1954 and is now home to over 20,000 people. But that’s not to say the area is devoid of history. Originally known as Glabertoun, it was once the hunting ground of the upper classes, before being bought by the Edinburgh Corporation to help grow the city.

Schools

Clermiston Primary School is a non-denominational school currently serving around 300 boys and girls from the local area. As well as its 13 classes, it boasts a dining room with attached kitchen, a library, a large hall and an all-purpose room. Because the school serves such a tight-knit community, it takes great pride in its relationship with parents. The Parent Council are encouraged to play as active a role as possible in the wider school experience.

The primary is also a feeder school for the nearby Royal High School. One of Scotland’s oldest schools, it sits at the north of Clermiston and serves all of the town, as well as Dalmeny and other surrounding suburban areas. With nearly 1300 pupils and 79% of leavers gaining more than five SQA accredited awards at SCQF L5 or better, it’s an attractive option for local parents and children.

Local amenities

Being so close to Edinburgh, Clermiston gets by just fine with the bare essentials. Just beside the primary school you’ll find the Munro Community Centre, with a small collection of local businesses just over the road. There’s a newsagents, a hairdressers and a delicatessen, with the Parkgrove Medical Centre around the corner. There’s also a newer selection of shops on Queensferry Road, which runs along the north edge of the town. Head here for a Tesco Express, a Majestic Wines, a pharmacy, a baker, a travel agent and an Italian restaurant. Or for an almost limitless variety of shops and amenities, just keep going along Queensferry Road for 20 minutes until you get to the centre of Edinburgh.

Out and About

Sitting just west of the main city, Clermiston has easy access to all sorts of parks, attractions and destinations. Hillwood Park, just to the east of the town, offers a huge area perfect for walking, exploring or just relaxing among the trees. Take a walk up to the famous Corstorphine Hill Tower, a memorial to Sir Walter Scott, for an impressive piece of history right on your doorstep.

Golf lovers will have plenty of options in Clermiston. Just to the north of the town you’ll find the Royal Burgess Golfing Society, The Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society and Silverknowes Golf Club. To the east is Ravelston Golf Club, to the south is Carrick Knowe Golf Course, and to the west, just beside Edinburgh Airport, is Turnhouse Golf Course.

Speaking of which, the airport is less than a ten minute drive away, but not so close that the area is synonymous with noise pollution.
