Location

The leafy neighbourhood of Polwarth resides in the south of Edinburgh and is nestled between Bruntsfield, Merchiston and Fountainbridge; a stones throw from the very heart of the city.

The union canal, running from Edinburgh to Falkirk, offers a calming retreat from hectic city life. on its north bank lies Harrison Park which is a well kept green area and is one of only three parks in the city claiming the prestigious Green Flag award.

Things to do

World renowned attractions such as Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street gardens are close by and with theatres, restaurants and bars so accessible there is never a lack for something to do.

The green areas which surround Polwarth are excellent venues for picnics and outdoor activities. There is a convenient network of foot paths and bike trails which will suit walkers and cyclists alike and with the cities best golf courses in the vicinity, there is something for everyone.

For those rainy days the near by Fountain Park boasts a ten pin bowling alley, a Cineworld cinema, gyms, restaurants and bars. And, for the children, there is Gambado’s kids soft play park where they can have fun in complete safety.

Transport

Polwarth has many great amenities on its very doorstep but if you are roaming further afield there are many choices for transport.

If you are more active, or simply want to enjoy the great outdoors there is the Union Canal walk way which provides access to routes throughout the city on both foot and bicycle.

There is a regular bus service leaving from both Polwarth Terraces and Polwarth Gardens for when walking isn’t an option. and with Haymarket Station less than a mile away, trams providing direct links to St Andrews Square and Edinburgh International Airport, Polwarth is well served by Edinburgh’s transport links.

Eating out

If you are not inspired by Marks & Spencer or Waitrose in nearby Morningside or by any of the independent delicatessens in the area there are some excellent choices for eating out.

The colourful Piecebox cafe and bakery comes highly acclaimed. It has a bright garden for those hot summer days and provides an excellent range of cakes which will satisfy any sweet tooth.

more formal dining is provided by the Royal Ettrick Hotel which does breakfast, light bites, afternoon tea and restaurant dining in the evening.

And, if these options don’t tempt your tastebuds it is only a short tram ride to explore the culinary delights that the nearby West End has to offer.

Schools

For younger children there are the close by Bruntsfield and St Cuthbert’s RC Primary schools and, for older children, Polwarth is in the catchment area of both Boroughmuir High and St Augustine’s RC High.
